Advanced Tanning Solutions was founded in 2017 by Dale Knobloch. Dale is the developer of each product and has been a pioneer in leather tanning chemistry for over forty years. He was the first to develop a one-step tan in the form of a tanning cream among many other first-time products that were introduced to the taxidermy market in the 1980s. Dale’s deep understanding of the leather tanning process has led to the development of products with new formulations that have outperformed current products on the market. Recently, Dale’s lifetime contributions were recognized by his peers as he was inducted into the Taxidermy Hall of Fame 2017 class.

Tan-a-Hide is a sampling of Dale Knobloch’s latest tanning formulations. The kit includes products used by our commercial tanneries and are specific for use on larger mammals such as deer, antelope, elk, moose, caribou and other like hides. Tan-a-Hide is perfect for the first-time tanner.

Tan-a-Hide is the perfect kit showcasing the products and tools used to tan your hides from start to finish. The instruction booklet and video will walk you through the full treatment process.

Salting

Salting is an important step in tanning. It sets the hair and keeps the hide from decaying. In this step, you’ll spread a heavy layer of salt over the flesh side of the hide. (Salt is not included in the kit).

Tanning

Tan-a-Hide includes Dale Knobloch’s revolutionary Pickle Tan, a product that pickles and tans all in one, speeding up the process to save you time and unnecessary hassle. The result is minimal shrinkage, smoother shaving, and excellent stretch.

Shaving

The shaving process makes the skin thinner and more pliable. This makes it easier to stretch and results in a softer finished hide. Shaving is an important step in the tanning process, and it’s something that anyone can do at home with the right tools.

Oiling

Oiling the hide is a crucial step in achieving the overall softness of the skin. The oil is best applied and rubbed in with your hands to get all of the areas of the hide.
